Teachers’ Day was commemorated in Chuchuyimlang village on Thursday with a program held at Government Middle School (GMS) Longzüng, where the 5th Immakmangyang Award for Excellence in Teaching was also presented.

The award, established in memory of late Immakmangyang by his family members in 2015, is conferred every three years among teachers from the three schools of the village. This year’s honour was awarded to Imtimongba, teacher-in-charge of Government Primary School (GPS) Yimpang.

Accepting the award, Imtimongba expressed appreciation to the family of late Immakmangyang and dedicated the recognition to fellow teachers, students, parents, and the community at large. He hoped that the award would continue to inspire the teaching fraternity of Chuchuyimlang and contribute to the village’s educational growth.

Earlier, delivering the award address, L. Bendangsangla, retired joint director of School Education, reflected on the essence of teaching, stating that a teacher’s worth is not in awards but in the transformation they bring to their pupils. She described teachers as mentors, guides, and parental figures whose influence extends beyond classrooms.

Representing the sponsoring family, Bendangmenla, retired deputy director, recalled her father’s long service as a teacher from 1941 to 1978. She said he was remembered as a community builder and urged that the award be viewed both as recognition and as motivation to strive for greater service in education.
