The villages authorities of Hovishe and Ghotovi under Niuland district have announced that they would impose a ban on vehicular movement under their jurisdiction along Niuland-Zhadima road against the state government’s neglect of said road.
The two villages stated to have held a joint meeting on September 15 at Niuland Town to deliberate on the deplorable road condition of Niuland-Zhadima Road which is the lifeline for many commuters. The mentioned road serves as an alternative route for Dimapur-Kohima travel whenever the National Highway-29 between Dimapur and Kohima is blocked due to landslides or other natural disasters.
Stating that the road has long been neglected despite repeated representations and appeals to the state government for sanctioning it a vital all-weather road, the two villages have unanimously resolved to ban vehicular movement including government vehicles in the jurisdiction of Hovishe and Ghotovi villages from September 16, 6 am onwards. The village authorities said the road will remain closed indefinitely. However, police, medical services and para military services shall be exempted from the ban.
