A police vehicle bearing registration number 4051 hit three vehicles near the District Jail junction in Mokokchung town on the evening of October 30 and fled the scene prompting an inquiry and assurances of corrective measures from the Superintendent of Police. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, though the vehicles involved sustained minor damages.
According to Satemba, one of the victims whose Bolero sustained minor damage, the incident occurred at around 4:10 p.m. when a police Tata truck suddenly rammed into a Gypsy parked outside a workshop along NH-702D road at Yimyu Ward. As it continued, after taking a sharp turn, the truck went on to hit an NST bus and his Bolero before speeding away. He added that the vehicle appeared to have been moving at high speed and fled the scene.
He recalled that soon after the incident, a police convoy arrived at the spot, following the Tata truck that had gone by a d shared that a commander from the arrived convoy reportedly took responsibility at the scene and assured the victims that the driver of the truck would be produced for clarification, instructing them not to move from the site. “However, till the last hour, the driver was not brought to the scene as assured by the commander, nor did the commander return,” said Satem.

As the delay continued, a large crowd gathered at the scene, leading to a temporary blockage of the National Highway. No vehicles were allowed to pass through until the situation was addressed.
Later in the evening, the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, arrived at the location around 8:27 p.m. and assured that appropriate action would be taken.
“We will definitely take corrective measures and conduct an inquiry to assess the extent of the damage and the driver’s responsibility. We will also investigate the role of the commander,” Kezo stated.
Later, the driver was subjected to a medical examination, which reportedly confirmed that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Superintendent of Police assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. He stated that the investigation would assess the extent of the damage, the driver’s responsibility, and determine necessary corrective measures. The SP further added that the role of the commander involved would also be examined as part of the inquiry.
The situation was eventually brought under control following the SP’s assurance. Further developments on the inquiry and departmental action are awaited.
