Missionshire Cricket Club (MCC), one of the oldest cricket clubs in Nagaland, celebrated its silver jubilee on November 22 in Kohima.
The event began with a prayer of thanksgiving led by Vilhoubeilie Cassius Solo, advisor of MCC, who reminisced about the club’s founding in 2000 and its mission to promote the game through various tournaments and activities. He highlighted how cricket, originating from England centuries ago, has become a globally popular sport.
Mengü Sakhrie, president of the Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA), extended greetings and congratulated MCC on reaching this milestone, acknowledging their efforts in promoting the game. He mentioned the challenges of building a cricket stadium in the district due to weather conditions and other issues but informed that an indoor cricket stadium proposal has been submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Stressing the importance of grassroots training, Sakhrie sought MCC’s continued support in nurturing young talent.
MCC has established cricket practice nets in eight Kohima locations namely, Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home, Jakhama Village, TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma, Dapfütsumia Khel, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, G. Rio, Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School and Meriema Village.

These facilities are part of the club’s efforts to encourage youngsters to play cricket, and have helped the club participate in tournaments. MCC is currently competing in the Masters Super League (MSL) at Sovima Cricket Stadium, Chümoukedima district.
Meanwhile, Lhouvivor Mebu Sekhose and Kezhalezo Solo shared about MCC’s achievements, including producing players who represented Kohima district in state tournaments.
The club, led by president Vithatsolie Chielie and general secretary Peteneizo Belho, was founded in 2000 and is registered under KDCA.
MCC is believed to be among the cricket clubs in Nagaland to complete 25 years, marking s significant milestone in the state’s cricket history. The jubilee celebration was attended by well-wishers, patrons and guests.
