The Nagaland Tribal Research Institute, Department of Tribal Affairs organized Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2022 Evening Cultural programme on 16 November at Capital Convention Centre Kohima with the Minister of Tribal Affairs & Higher Education Temjen Imna Along as Special Guest.
Imna Along in his speech congratulated all the tribal cultural troupes for actively taking part in the commemoration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2022. Along said the first-ever programme of Janjatiya Nagaland also joins with the 12 Crore tribal population across the country. He stated that indigenous followers are called Janjatiya which means tribal.
Imna Along said under the leadership of Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, the Tribal Affairs department was set up and the activities are rapidly progressing.
Along further encouraged the Naga tribes, in general, to construct unity among the different tribes and give their concern towards unity. He said the programme is to create good relationships and oneness.
He encouraged the 17 Naga Tribes to stand for the same. The Minister also apprised the Tribal Affairs department to organise such kinds of activities from time to time to create more closeness among the Naga brothers and sisters.
Imna Along also added that Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ name was given on 15 November by the Union Cabinet of the Government of India as tribal pride day to honour tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda.
Earlier, Secretary Tribal Affairs Kenilo Apon, IAS presented an opening remark. I Sino, Phom Additional Director & HoD, gave the closing remark and expressed her thankfulness to all the cultural troupe for their cooperation for which the programme was successful.
On the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2022, the cultural troupe of Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi, Yimkhiung and Zeliang participated.
