Mock Drill on Earthquake conducted in Kiphire

The District Disaster Management Authority of Kiphire in collaboration with District Administration conducted the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) 2022 today at Kiphire Town,

During the mock exercise, conducted state-wide, an earthquake scenario with a magnitude of 8.7 on the Richter scale and a fire scenario were simulated.

The exercise was held at three locations – Government Higher Secondary School, Daily Bazaar and District Agriculture Office (DAO).

The main staging area was set up at Helipad ground Kiphire with the relief camp at Local Ground Kiphire. The line departments and stakeholders reported to these sites after the siren was sounded off at 9am to respond to the disaster.

The rescue team involved 60 personnel from fire and emergency services and the Nagaland Police. The team, after being dispatched to the incident location, reported 18 casualties – four deaths and 14 with minor injuries; the injured were sent to the medical team for further treatment and first aid.

A total of 80 volunteers from different schools and colleges, government departments and agencies participated in the mock exercise.

The mock exercise was conducted with an aim to educate the public on the measures to take in preventing critical harm to oneself and others in situations of earthquakes and fire incidents.

A good number of spectators were seen in town today during the staging of the fire and earthquake scenario.
