Meteorological Centre Kohima, India Meteorological Department (IMD) organised a curtain raiser event ahead of IISF 2025 as part of its efforts to foster scientific temper and raise awareness among science enthusiasts.
The India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025, to be held during 6th to 9th December 2025 at Panchkula, Chandigarh, is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) along with other science ministries and Department of the Government of India and VIBHA. This festival will feature 14 thematic frontiers focused on future technologies, sustainability, and broad scientific outreach showcasing the theme, “Vigyan Se Samriddhi- For Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
Ahead of IISF 2025, the Meteorological Centre, Kohima, India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, organized a Curtain Raiser Event for IISF 2025 on November 26 at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland. The event witnessed participation from faculty members, students & officials from NIT Nagaland and Meteorological Centre, Kohima.
The event at NIT Nagaland commenced with a formal welcome and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest, Dr Manoj E Prabhakar, Registrar of NIT Nagaland, followed by the felicitation of Dignitaries. A brief presentation was made about IISF 2025, highlighting its objective and importance was given by Nalnish Kumar Chaudhary, Scientist – D & Head, Meteorological Centre Kohima. A video presentation on IISF 2025 was also screened, giving participants a glimpse of the upcoming national event at Panchkula.

Dr Manoj E Prabhakar, Registrar of NIT Nagaland, Dr P Chinnamuthu, Associate Professor, NIT Nagaland, Dr Jay Chandra Dhar, Assistant Professor, NIT Nagaland, and others also addressed the gathering about the objective and importance of science & technology in our daily life. Meteorological Centre, Kohima, also showcased various instruments of the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) and their functioning.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chon Nitin followed by the National Anthem.
The Curtain Raiser served as a platform to inspire young minds and encourage participation in the forthcoming IISF 2025.
