The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha Division, organised a ‘Swachhta Run’ at Zero Point, Sanis Block in Wokha today.
The run was held for Sampoorna Swachhta to commemorate World Toilet Day, in compliance with the direction from the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The participants of the Swachhta Run included WATSAN Members, Swachhagrahis, ASHA & ANGANWADI Workers, volunteers, youths and schoolchildren, among others.
At the beginning of the run, each participant took the Swachhta Pledge. Along the run’s route, banners, posters and other IEC materials from SBM (G) Phase II were on display.
Before flagging off the run, Er Cheni, SDO Sanis, stated that the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) has been acknowledged as the greatest behavior change initiative in the world and that it reflects the influencing force of peoples’ behavior – ‘Jal Andolan’ – that transformed the lives of rural India’s populace in terms of social benefits, economic gains, environmental safety, and most importantly, dignity and security to women.
According to him, the second phase of SBM (G) is concentrated on enhancing this solid base of healthy habits and inspiring action toward ODF plus.
Earlier, Chuba Longchar, District Coordinator, PHED, stated in his address that the ‘Swachhta Run’ is one such activity that involves the general public for the same thing, with the goal being to raise awareness among people about the importance of usage of a toilet, safe sanitation and visual cleanliness aligned to SBM (G) phase II components.
T-shirts, caps and participation certificates were also distributed to the participants.
