Genesis Old Riphyim and Waxen CC have booked their places in the grand finale of the 30th Winter Cricket Challenge, setting up an anticipated showdown on January 5.
In the first semi-final played between Genesis and Lancer CC on January 3, Lancer CC won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled against Genesis’ disciplined bowling attack. Lancer CC were bundled out for 89 runs in 19.2 overs, with only Sanjay Shiva (28) and Shamwang (11) reaching double figures.

Chasing the modest target, Genesis secured victory by six wickets in 16.4 overs. Lijanbemo Patton top-scored with 39 runs, supported by Nzanthung (26) and Renjamo (13). Nchumbemo of Genesis was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive four-wicket haul.

The second semi-final saw Waxen CC face Dashing Dudes Wokha Village. Opting to field first after winning the toss, Dashing Dudes were put under pressure as Waxen CC piled up a formidable 204 runs in 20 overs, losing five wickets.

Key contributions came from Sujal Prasad (68 off 24 balls), Alok Sharma (57), and Shiva Mahadev (43). In response, Dashing Dudes fell short, managing 174 runs before being bowled out in the 19th over. Aarush (48) and Munchun (23) were the notable scorers for the side. Sujal Prasad’s explosive knock and three wickets earned him the Man of the Match award.
With both teams in fine form, the grand finale between Genesis Old Riphyim CC and Waxen CC to be played on January 5, 11 AM, promises to be a thrilling contest to conclude the 30th edition of the Winter Cricket Challenge.
