Adult Literacy Campaign launched in Chukitong block to empower rural communities

The Zukhumki Federation, in collaboration with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Wokha District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and the Department of Social Welfare under Mission Shakti (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao), officially launched the Adult Literacy Campaign in Chukitong Block at Tsungiki Community Hall on April 29, 2025, with an objective to promote adult literacy as a means of empowering individuals and strengthening rural communities through access to education and awareness.

The launch event was attended by local officials, community leaders, and stakeholders.

Dr. Wonjano E. Enny, District Coordinator of DHEW, delivered a keynote address on the objectives of Mission Shakti. She highlighted various government schemes available to citizens, particularly those geared toward women’s safety and empowerment. Dr. Enny emphasized the need for inclusive education to uplift marginalized groups and bridge social gaps.

Senior SDEO Raphael Zubonthung also addressed the gathering, stressing the transformative impact of literacy on individual lives and communities. “Literacy not only opens doors to economic opportunities but also fosters greater participation in civic and social life,” he noted, urging villagers to take active part in the campaign.

Speeches were also presented NSRLM officials, Village Development Board (VDB) representatives, and Block Project Manager Janthungbemo Ezung highlighted the unified commitment to the campaign’s goals. They reiterated their support in facilitating resources and ensuring the successful implementation of the initiative.

Zuchobeni, President of the Englan Range Women Livelihood, Thrift and Credit Cooperative Limited, shared a powerful testimony of the campaign’s earlier success in Englan Range. She outlined how adult literacy has contributed to skill development and financial inclusion, particularly among women.

Representatives from the VDB and GBs of Tsungiki village assured full cooperation and encouraged the community to embrace the opportunity to transform their lives through literacy.

The event began with a welcome address by CRP-EP Lochumlo and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tsungiki VLO Treasurer, Lochumlo Kikon, who expressed gratitude to all participating organizations and individuals for their dedication to the cause.

The program was chaired by Lucy Kikon, General Secretary of the Zukhumki Federation, a welcome address by CRP-EP Lochumlo and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tsungiki VLO Treasurer, Lochumlo Kikon.
