The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has distanced itself from its former president, Katho P Awomi, following his alleged involvement in a vandalism incident at a bar in Dimapur, while also calling for strict enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act.
In a statement issued by its Media Cell, ANCSU said it had taken serious note of the incident involving Awomi, which is currently under investigation by the competent law enforcement authorities.
The Union condemned the alleged act, stating that reports surrounding the incident had adversely affected the image, credibility and legacy of ANCSU. It noted that as a former president, Awomi had once held a position of trust and responsibility, and any conduct inconsistent with the principles of integrity, discipline and accountability expected of student leaders inevitably reflected on the Union he once represented.
To safeguard the dignity, reputation and institutional integrity of the Union, ANCSU announced that Awomi would not be invited, associated with or engaged in any ANCSU programme, activity or official function in any capacity until the matter is conclusively resolved through due process of law. It said the decision was taken solely to protect the credibility of the organisation and maintain public confidence in its leadership.

The Union also reiterated its concern over the continued operation of bars, restaurants and nightclubs allegedly engaged in the sale and consumption of alcohol despite the existence of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989. It said the persistent and open violation of the law raised serious questions about its enforcement and had contributed to various social problems affecting the youth and student community.
ANCSU called upon the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and other competent authorities to immediately shut down all bars, restaurants and night clubs found to be selling or facilitating the consumption of alcohol in contravention of the provisions of the NLTP Act 1989 and ensure strict and impartial enforcement of the law.
Warning of further action, the Union stated that failure by the authorities to act decisively against such unlawful establishments would leave it with no option but to launch appropriate democratic measures to uphold the rule of law and ensure public accountability.
ANCSU maintained that its stand was not directed against any individual or organisation but was guided by its commitment to ethical leadership, respect for the rule of law and the welfare of the student community and society.
