Axis Bank opens full-fledged branch at Chunlikha under Unbanked Block initiative

Axis Bank inaugurated its new full-fledged branch at Chunlikha in Tseminyu district under the Government of India’s Unbanked Block initiative, aimed at expanding banking access in underserved areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Zukeya Woch, VCM of Chunlikha Village Council, recalled the efforts that led to the establishment of the branch under the initiative of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and the State Government. Thanking Axis Bank for making the long-cherished dream a reality, he assured the bank of the village’s full support and urged residents of Chunlikha Block to utilise the banking facilities.

Poujaulung, Vice President and Cluster Head, Axis Bank Dimapur Cluster, said the Chunlikha branch had been opened under the Unbanked Block programme as per the directives of the Department of Financial Services, the Government of Nagaland and the Finance Department. He informed that Axis Bank currently operates 18 branches and 25 ATMs across eight districts in Nagaland.

He said the Chunlikha branch is a full-service banking outlet equipped to provide savings and current accounts, fixed deposits, debit and credit cards, personal, home, auto and education loans, investment and insurance products, government-sponsored schemes such as PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY, as well as digital banking services including mobile, internet and WhatsApp banking. The bank will also conduct financial literacy camps across villages under Chunlikha Block.

Poujaulung thanked the Department of Financial Services, the State Government, Deputy Commissioner, RBI Kohima, SLBC Nagaland, village councils, churches, student bodies and well-wishers for their support, and assured that the bank would provide quality banking services to the people of Chunlikha Block and Tseminyu district.

Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, NCS, welcomed the opening of the branch, describing it as a major step towards improving financial inclusion in the area. He said the branch would enable residents to access a wide range of banking services, including digital banking, savings accounts, loan facilities and government-backed schemes such as the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

Highlighting the importance of financial independence, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the public to work closely with the district administration, village councils and the bank. He also underlined the role of banks in promoting entrepreneurship, supporting self-help groups, students and individuals, and strengthening the district’s economy. Assuring full cooperation from the district administration, he expressed hope that Axis Bank would work in close coordination with the administration for the benefit of the people.

The inaugural programme was compered by Ekonbeni Ovung, Sales Executive, Axis Bank Wokha Branch, who also delivered the welcome address. Nyikeya Tep, Assistant Pastor of Kithagha Union Baptist Church, offered the invocation, while Nungshinaro Jamir, RO Personal Loan, Axis Bank Kohima, presented a special song. Ashale Thong also spoke on behalf of the landlord.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Neiketoulie Norbert, Branch Head, Axis Bank Chunlikha Branch.
