BJP extends support to NDPP in Nagaland, NPF in Outer Manipur and NPP in Meghalaya

Kohima: BJP yet to announce its candidate for Inner Manipur PC

The Bhartiya Janata Party has announced that it will not field its candidates in Nagaland, Outer Manipur and Meghalaya in the forthcoming General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha but would support the candidates of its alliance parties.

“I am pleased to inform that BJP will extend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPP in both the seats of Meghalaya (Shillong and Tura), to NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency and to NDPP in Nagaland in the ensuing Parliamentary elections 2024”, BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra announced on X.

In Nagaland, the NDPP-BJP alliance presented the ticket for the lone Parliamentary seat to former Minister Dr Chumben Murry on 20th March 2024. In a reply to Patra’s post, the Party thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support and solidarity.

“Collectively we will take Nagaland towards A State of Excellence,” the Office of the General Secretary of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party stated.

For Outer Manipur, Naga People’s Front (NPF) has presented the party ticket to Kachui Timothy Zimik on 21st March 2024. For the Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat where the Meiteis are in majority, BJP is yet to announce its candidate but there are speculations that Chief Minister N Biren Singh might be a contender.

Awangbow Newmai, NPF Manipur President, in a reply to Patra’s post expressed gratefulness to Nadda, Biren Singh, PM Modi and Shah for supporting NPF and NDA alliance.

In Meghalaya where there are two seats, NPP’s Ampareen Lyngdoh filed her nomination on Friday for Shillong Parliamentary Constituency while it has been announced that sitting MP Agatha Sangma has been renominated to contest from the Tura PC.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too thanked Nadda, PM Modi and Shah for their support.

As for the rest of the North East States, in Assam which has 14 seats, BJP will contest in 11 seats, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will contest two seats and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) will contest one seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In Arunachal Pradesh, where the Legislative Assembly elections will also take place simultaneously, BJP has named Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for the Arunachal West seat and Tapir Gao for the Arunachal East seat.

For Tripura, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Dep will represent BJP in Tripura West while Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma will contest from the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat.

In Sikkim, where the State Assembly elections will also take place, the BJP candidate is yet to be announced.
