Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland to return for 4th edition on 29 Sep

Kohima: Brillante Fest only multi genre piano competition in India (Western Classical & Jazz) in various categories

The 4th edition of the Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland will start from 29 September to 1 October 2023 at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, the organisers informed on Friday at a press conference held at The Heritage, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

Khyochano TCK, Founder and Director of Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland, mentioned that this festival is a “spectacular, vibrant, and one-of-a-kind music event that is defined by fine piano music, creative engagements and innovative platforms for all musicians and music lovers.”

She highlighted that Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland is the only multi-genre piano festival in the world with Performance, Competition and Pedagogy, all working in beautiful synergy creating an amazing atmosphere that is unique and beautiful. Khyochano added that strength of Brillante is the purity of its intent to impact society positively through artistic engagements and the support of a genuine community comprising of music houses, organisations, institutes and genuine music lovers spanning all ages, cultural backgrounds, and diversity of people from all over the world.

The  Director also made special  mention of few artist who will be present at the 2023 festival –  Dr Adam J. Greig, a Scottish pianist, musicologist, and director who teaches at KM Music Conservatory in India; Anuvrat Choudhary, a 24-year-old pianist who holds diplomas from Trinity College London and a Master’s degree from Trinity Laban; Paddy Trio, an Afro-Cuban jazz group led by Pradyumna Manot, a Latin jazz pianist, composer, and music educator; special abled musician Ritam Changkakoti, a musical prodigy from Guwahati, Assam and many more. Along with the featured guest artists, several talented artists from Nagaland will also be performing during the event.

Khyochano also informed that the festival will also have the only multi genre piano competition in India (Western Classical & Jazz) in various categories.

The first edition of Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland was held in 2017 at Kohima to uplift the local community and has now become a pan-India movement, the Director mentioned, adding that it is definitely taking its place as a contributor to the music ecosystem in the country reminding all that it is more than just a festival.

Further, Brillante seeks to act as an agent of social development through deliberate music engagements across all segments of the community and it plays an integral role in contributing to the music ecosystem in India through collaborations with brands, institutes, artists, organisations and local government bodies.

Khyochano stated that Brillante has the strong belief that it is an impacting, inspiring and initiating avenue for young India by building a strong, supportive music community. This edition, through the Brilliante SAM (Specially Abled Musician) program, it celebrates the efforts and spirit of the musicians with special needs and also aims to sensitise the larger community about such musicians and also share their heroic stories of overcoming odds through the power of music.

The Jury for the 4th Brillante Piano Festival Nagaland competition are: Prelims – Nagaland Piano Teachers Association (NPTA) board members Ezono Kithan John, Bethel Tsuzu. For the

Semis and Finals – the jury panel will be from the featured artists and specialists.

The workshops, masterclasses and practicums at Brillante will make any curious music lover or learner jump for joy, the Director added.

The Piano Masterclasses will feature: Dr Adam J Grieg; Rhythms of Jazz – Pradyumna Singh Manot; Introduction to Jazz Music – Aki Spadaro, Goa Jazz Academy; Learning the Piano Away from the Piano – Priya Chaturvedi and Anuvrat Choudhry; Piano Tuning and Maintenance – Sachin Das, MD, Musee Musical a Chennai; The Unspoken Rules of the Piano Accompanist – Almudena, Global Music Institute (Piano – Spain, Jatziri (vocals)- Mexico); Nise Meruno, Yamaha Ambassador; Sound Healing & Therapy – Roheth Kandwal; Piano Pedagogy for the Young – Anjili Mata, Academic Head, Trinity College London, India; The Journey of the Piano – Sahil Vasudeva; and, Zingrin Shishak, Dean of Music, MSS.

Kohima Deputy commissioner Shanavas C, IAS, who was also present at the conference expressed his support to the festival as urged all to come forward and attend this festival that spreads happiness and positivity. He also highlighted that the district administration was planning to collaborate with Brillante under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme.

The organisers also announced special entry fee package for schools, school students and specially abled persons.
