Bus ferrying passengers from Kohima to Noklak meets with accident in Wokha district; drunk driving suspected

Wokha: Nine injured passengers admitted in DH Wokha, receiving medical attention

A private bus (Super) that travels from Noklak to Dimapur met with an accident on Saturday night between Tsungiki Bazaar (Chukitong range) and Coco Bridge in Wokha District. The bus was reportedly on its way to Noklak from Kohima. Some passengers accused the bus driver of driving under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Wokha, Soriso K Quinker informed that they received the information around 10:40 pm that a private bus bound for Noklak via Tuensang met with an accident before reaching Coco Bridge. So accordingly, a team of police led by 2nd Officer in Charge and Duty Officer rushed to the spot.

The administration was also informed about the incident who promptly activated the medical team, the ASP said, adding that the medical team administered first aid to all passengers and those with minor injuries were rushed to District Hospital, Wokha.

The Addl SP said that nine injured passengers are admitted in DH Wokha and are being given medical attention and the rest of the passengers left for Tuensang in another vehicle.

He also said that the driver and the handyman of the bus are absconding as of now.

The Addl SP, on behalf of DEF Wokha, appealed to all travellers and drivers to avoid drinking and rash driving, especially during the festive season.

The nine persons injured in the mishap have been identified as Sutimong T (25), Chongma (22), Shou P, T Kheapong (27), Afzal Hussain (43), Pusong (19), Jonak (19) and Teresa. The name of one of the injured could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
