DPDB meetings held at Wokha and Meluri

The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting of Wokha for the month of June was held at DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha on June 10, chaired by newly appointed DPDB Chairman and Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan. MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Vice Chairman DPDB & Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, also attended the session.

The meeting began with a review of last DPDB meeting agendas, which included discussions on identifying a feasible location for the construction of a District Hospital in Wokha, addressing the drying problem and rejuvenation of the Etsutchukha water pond, and the formation of a high‑power committee to study soil conditions in Doyang for two weeks, particularly in areas where landslides pose a threat to institutions. The shortage of Nagaland State Transport (NST) bus services within Wokha district was also deliberated, with the house resolving to request the government to look into the matter at the earliest possible time.

Proposals for establishing Sub‑Centres at Pyangsa and Aree New villages were taken up, with Chief Medical Officer, Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung highlighting the hardships faced by villagers in accessing basic health facilities, Advisor Yanthan also said that establishing PHC is the utmost need of the hour at the villages as peoples from the areas are facing hardship even to access basic medical facilities.

A PowerPoint presentation was delivered by EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan, on behalf of the District Administration, outlining the administrative setup, its roles and responsibilities, inter‑departmental coordination, Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations, and various government schemes etc.

Chairman Mhathung Yanthan directed that all administrative officers posted outside Wokha town but within the district must attend DPDB meetings regularly to ensure effective governance and public service. He urged officers and Heads of Departments to take the meetings seriously, maintain strict attendance, and actively participate in discussions.

Assistant Commissioner of Taxes, M Chibeni Lotha, presented departmental activities, explaining tax laws implemented in the state, the functioning of the department, and revenue growth targets. Wokha Town Council member, Habenthung Ezung, also gave a presentation highlighting ongoing solid waste management, traffic regulation, and the vision plan for Wokha town’s development.

Yanthan also commended the Lotha Youth Hoho for its mission to eradicate drug abuse in Wokha. He informed that DPDB members will visit de‑addiction centres in the district during the next meeting. Upcoming departmental presentations will be given by the Police, Labour, and Prison departments.

As part of institutional visits, the Chairman and Advisor Agriculture, MLA, DC and DPDB Wokha members toured the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Bailey Baptist College.

Meluri:

The monthly DPDB meeting of Meluri district was held at the DB’s Court, Meluri on June 11 under the chairmanship of the Advisor, NSDMA & Inland Waterways and DPDB Chairman, Meluri, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe.

Z Nyuthe welcomed the members present in the meeting and reviewed the previous meeting minutes. While discussing on various development issues concerning the district, he expressed concern over the shortage of teachers in some Government Schools under Pochury Area, emphasizing the need to induct additional teachers to address the problem.

DC Meluri, Phuleshe K Yepthomi, emphasized the need to establish a Red Cross Society in Meluri for the welfare of the general public. He also requested all departments to submit their LADP proposal at the earliest.

During the meeting, the board also recommended the proposal submitted by the Khumiasu village requesting for Regional Taxi Permit to ply from Khumiasu to Dimapur. Later the SDO PHED, Rangam Nyuwi, highlighting the department’s activities and various scheme and programmes implemented under Meluri through PowerPoint presentation.
