Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in charge of Home and Border affairs, Yathungo Patton, has made an appeal to anyone with any knowledge about the murder of a 35-year-old woman at Pimla Village under Chümoukedima on 7th April 2025 to come forward and assist the authorities.

In a statement, Patton said that the “act of violence is utterly unacceptable and must be met with the strongest response under the law.” Extending deepest condolences to the victim’s family, he assured that “every step will be taken to ensure that justice is delivered”.

The police are pursuing every lead and examining all aspects of the case. Those responsible must face the full force of the law, Y. Patton added.

The Deputy CM also stated that violence against women remains a grave concern and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

Earlier on 7th April 2025, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highways, T.R. Zeliang expressed concern over “the suspected rape and murder of a young mother hailing from Mhaikam Village.”

In a post on X platform, Zeliang stated that the heinous crime is unforgivable and perpetrators should be found and justice delivered.

No woman should fear for her life and there is no place for such brutal acts in any civilised society, Zeliang asserted while extending solidarity with the victim’s family.
