Education adds value to any endeavour whether business or any other initiative: Minister Kruse addresses inaugural session of 75 years commemoration Kigwema Students’ Union

The inaugural session of the Kigwema Students’ Union (KSU) 75th anniversary was held on December 30. Under the theme “Towards a sustainable future”, the event is being held at Kholera, Kigwema. Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister, Women Resource Development & Horticulture graced the occasion as the Special Guest during the inaugural session.

Reflecting on the relevance of the anniversary theme “Towards a sustainable future”, Kruse expressed the need for the conservation of our rich natural resources. A brief history of the origin of Angamis was highlighted where Kruse underscored the harmonious coexistence within the Angami community, showcasing their positive social dynamics which included Kigwema.

Many of the old Angami villages possess a collective pride which, Kruse credited, have been derived from Kigwema as one of the oldest villages among the Angamis.

The Minister also acknowledged the Motto of the Kigwema Students’ Union – Hard labour conquers all- which according to her, is a well thought motto initiated by the preceding leaders. Kruse noted that hard work is important for Education.

Kruse also highlighted the Nagaland Government’s broad vision which has introduced many schemes, and encouraged the gathering to avail the schemes and assistance provided the government. With respect to the Horticulture Department, Kruse stated that unlike the manual way of agriculture, the Department now have machines and technological developments in order to foster faster yields.

While the provision and presence of rice from outside the State has discouraged cultivation, Kruse viewed that cultivation should be continued for culture’s sake. She urged the gathering to sustain the cultivation of rice, fruits, spices, flowers etc. The Minister also encouraged the growth of organic business and advised partnership with government for better markets.

Highlighting the activities of the Women Resource Department, the speaker encouraged handicrafts entrepreneurship. She asserted the need to learn the art of making apparel that are purchased from other states and unavailable skills in Nagaland.

In this regard, Kruse also informed that a proposal has been put up in the Department for initiating such skill development.

“Education adds value to any endeavour whether business or any other initiative,” stated Kruse encouraging the students to work hard for a desired and sustainable future. While every student possess different calibre, Kruse advised those who lack academic skills to pursue other skills and be diligent.

The inaugural session was chaired by Vilekho Bio, Former President, KSU while the blessings were invoked by Visato Yhoshü, Pastor, Union Baptist Church. An introductory note was delivered by Mezhüvi Thorie, President KSU and an elderly exhortation “Manoeuvring the Future” was spoken by Dr. Dietho-o Yhoshü, Former MLA and Senior Citizen. An elderly prayer was also invoked by Zapu-o Zhasa, Former Chairman, KVC.

Minister Kruse also released the anniversary souvenir during the event. In the evening session, NCS Vikhweno Chale, Deputy Director, Admin, NIMSR, will be the Valedictory guest.
