On 24th July 2023, the Industries and Commerce Department organized an Export Awareness Programme at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in Nagaland. The event was graced by Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor to Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, as the Special Guest.
Key officials, including Kekhrievor Kevichusa (Commissioner & Secretary, GON), Amit Sharma (Joint DGFT, Kolkata, GOI), Meyasahi (Director of Horticulture), and Albert Ngullie (Director of Land Resources) were also present at the programme.
In her speech, Hekani Jakhalu expressed contentment with Nagaland’s progress in the global exports arena. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among departments to ensure success in the state’s export sector, particularly between the Industries and Commerce Department and the Agri and Allied departments.
Amit Sharma highlighted the significance of exports and the role of the Trade Promotion Wing in addressing infrastructure and logistics challenges in the region. He stressed the importance of Geographical Indication (GI) tagging to preserve the identity of Nagaland’s products and reduce costs while enhancing market competitiveness.
Kekhrievor Kevichusa encouraged entrepreneurs to utilize the export and import center at Ganesh Nagar and mentioned the upcoming Model Export Facility in Dimapur that will further benefit the state’s export sector. He advocated for departmental clustering to enhance Nagaland’s export potential.
Meyasahi addressed Nagaland’s trade deficit situation and emphasized the significance of maintaining quantity, quality, and pricing standards for successful exports through cluster farming practices.
Albert Ngullie highlighted the growth of coffee and rubber activities promoted by the department, with Nagaland’s coffee being exported to countries like Switzerland and South Africa. He stressed the importance of traceability to protect the identity of Nagaland’s coffee in the global market.
