A farewell programme was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung, in honour of Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung district who officially is transferred and posted as Joint Secretary, P&AR. Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, who previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Mon district, has officially assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung district.
Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung district, expressed deep gratitude to the people of the district as he completed his tenure.
“It has been 1 year, 11 months, and 5 days of service as the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung,” he stated. “Today, my tenure officially comes to an end. I am deeply grateful to the Almighty and to the people of Mokokchung district for their support throughout my time here.”
Reflecting on his personal connection with the community, he said, “From the beginning, I was accepted as one of your own, you embraced me not just as a son-in-law, but truly as a son. For that, I will remain forever grateful.”
He acknowledged the support of civil society organizations, saying, “I would like to sincerely thank Watsü Mungdang, Ao Senden, and the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), the apex civil society bodies of Mokokchung, for their concern, love, and affection. Your encouragement and guidance gave me strength and helped me grow, both as an administrator and as a human being.”
“I have come to understand that as humans, we all have shortcomings,” he continued.
Looking back on his administrative journey, he said, “I began my career as an EAC in Mokokchung district at Mangkolemba Subdivision. After many years of service across various postings, I returned here as Deputy Commissioner. In many ways, it feels fitting that I both began and concluded my district-level service in Mokokchung. Ultimately, our paths are guided by God’s will.”
He extended appreciation to all stakeholders, stating, “To the heads of departments, NGOs, educational institutions, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and all government functionaries—thank you for your cooperation. With your support, we were able to implement many developmental schemes and initiatives successfully.”
Addressing his colleagues and the community, he said, “As individuals, we each bring different qualities to our roles. We are not perfect, but it is in our nature to make mistakes. As the saying goes, ‘To err is human, to forgive is divine.’ If, during my tenure, my words or actions caused anyone distress, I sincerely ask for your forgiveness.”
He further added, “I dealt with several key administrative events during my tenure, including matters related to border affairs with Assam, the Lok Sabha elections, and the municipal elections. Thankfully, no major disruptions occurred, and any issues that arose were handled through cooperation and understanding.”
“I have made many friends during my time here and bid farewell to several officers as well,” he reflected. “Today, it is my turn to say goodbye. This farewell is emotional for me because I have received nothing but warmth and acceptance from this community.”
He concluded by urging the public to support the incoming Deputy Commissioner with the same love and cooperation: “Mokokchung is known as the land of pioneers. The care and encouragement you have shown me—please extend it to my successor as well.”
He acknowledged the elected representatives of the Ao community, stating, “I express my gratitude to the 11 Ao legislators—10 from Mokokchung and one from Dimapur—as well as to the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. Most of all, I thank the people of Mokokchung district for everything.”

Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude, enthusiasm, and commitment to serve the district.
“This is the second time I have been given the privilege to serve in Mokokchung,” he said. “Not everyone gets the opportunity to return to a place where they trained and began their journey. I consider myself a child of Mokokchung, and I am deeply grateful to be back.”
Reflecting on his early career, he shared, “I completed a part of my IAS training here in Mokokchung. The memories, the learning experiences, and the people have left a lasting impact on me.”
Extending his best wishes to the outgoing Deputy Commissioner, Thsuvisie Phoji, he remarked, “Sir, you are a humble and capable leader. I wish you all the very best in your future endeavours. I look forward to seeking your guidance in the days to come.”
Addressing the administrative setup, Verma emphasized the importance of teamwork. “As a Deputy Commissioner, I may be the head, but I cannot accomplish anything alone. It is the people behind the post—the staff, the subordinate officers, the heads of departments—who truly make things work. Without a competent and cooperative team, progress is not possible.”
He further added, “I may not be able to give individual attention to every department at all times, but I encourage all departments to come forward, to guide me, and to help me understand how best I can serve alongside you.”
Recognizing the vital role of civil society, Verma stated, “CSOs are crucial. The CSOs of Mokokchung are important and very special. To understand the aspirations of the people, I will need your continued support, insight, and cooperation.”
He acknowledged the capable team of the outgoing DC and appreciated their handling of key responsibilities such as border affairs and elections. “The staff is the backbone of the administration. Their systematic approach and dedication determine the efficiency of our work.”
In conclusion, Verma assured the gathering of his commitment, saying, “I will do my very best, with whatever understanding and capacity I possess. I am here to build on the work that has already been done and to serve as a connecting link between the administration and the people of Mokokchung. I sincerely request your support and cooperation.”
Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC Headquarters Mokokchung, chaired the programme. Short speeches were delivered by representatives of various stakeholders from the district. Among those who spoke were the President of the Mokokchung District GB Association, Chairman of Khensa VCC on behalf of all village councils under the district, Ao Senden representing apex Ao civil societies, and the MMC Chairman on behalf of the Urban Local Bodies of Mokokchung.
Alemtetba, PA to DC, conveyed words on behalf of the DC office staff, while Er. Philip, Principal of ITI Mokokchung, spoke on behalf of DPDB members and HoDs. Moakumzuk Tzudir, ADC Mangkolemba, also delivered a message on behalf of administrative officers, followed by Vesupra Kezo, Sr. SP Mokokchung. A farewell tune by Yimkum and a presentation followed the speeches.
