Speaking as the special guest, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Kevithuto Sophie acknowledged the organisers for initiating the first ever Nagaland Potato Festival at Jakhama. He said that this kind of exposure will open avenues in the agriculture sector especially in the Southern Angami region and take the maximum benefit of getting engaged in agro based activities.

Stating that every household in this particular region cultivates potatoes, he urged the people of the Southern Angami to preserve the environment and also encouraged the plantations of indigenous trees in the area.

Further, Sophie challenged the people to go back to their roots, to venture into entrepreneurship as most of the educated unemployed opt for white collared jobs. He said that as educated people, one also has to explore the feasibility and possibilities of agro based activities which is a vital and basic need for one’s sustainability in this fast growing world.

The fest witnessed displaying varieties of potatoes, demonstration on potato plantation, sale of organic potatoes, organic vegetables, handicrafts, local cuisines, trinkets etc.

More than seventy stalls were set by local entrepreneurs of the Southern Angami region and other districts across the state including the Agriculture Department of Government of Nagaland.
