ICAR-KVK Wokha organizes five-day Skill Training on Post-Harvest Processing and Value Addition

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre inaugurated a five-day Skill Training Programme on “Post-Harvest Technologies for Processing, Preservation and Value Addition of Major Crops” under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) Project at the KVK campus, Wokha on May 25.

The training programme, organized under the project “Establishment of Mini Food Processing Laboratory and Skill Development among Tribal SHGs and FPOs for Value Addition and Entrepreneurship Development,” aims to strengthen the technical capacity of tribal SHGs, FPOs, rural youth and farmers in food processing, value addition and entrepreneurship development.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr BL Mhalo Tungoe, CTO (Agricultural Extension). Dr Sandeep Deshmukh, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Wokha welcomed the participants and highlighted the objectives and significance of the training programme. The ISO Certification of the institution was formally released by Zanbeni Yanthan, President, ImpactHer Nagaland and Dr Zubemo Humtsoe, Chief Veterinary Officer, Wokha.

Speaking on the occasion, Zanbeni Yanthan encouraged the women farmers and SHG members to actively utilize the opportunity provided through the training programme and stressed the importance of upskilling their knowledge and entrepreneurship capacity for sustainable livelihood development.

Dr Zubemo Humtsoe, Chief Veterinary Officer, Wokha also appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR-KVK Wokha in empowering rural women through skill-oriented training and value addition technologies and encouraged the participants to become successful agri-entrepreneurs through proper utilization of local agricultural resources and scientific technologies.

Anuranjan Singh, Skill Development Officer, in his address urged the women farmers and rural youth to take advantage of skill development programmes and adopt value addition enterprises for income generation and self-reliance.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Megokhono Meyase, CTO (Horticulture), followed by a group photograph and technical session.

The five-day training programme scheduled from May 25 to 29, 2026 includes lectures, practical sessions and demonstrations on food processing and preservation technologies. Major training components include fruit preservation techniques, cassava chips processing, yam and taro chips preparation, chocolate and confectionery making, low-fat banana chips, banana flour production, edible flower processing, bakery products, rice-based snacks, soy milk and soy paneer preparation, packaging and branding of food products.

Resource persons from ICAR-KVK Wokha along with local entrepreneurs and experts including representatives from Yuthi Delights and Dream Bake are conducting the technical sessions and practical demonstrations.
