India has been ranked 39th position in the Global Innovation Index 2024 in the recently released GII Innovation Ecosystems & Data Explorer 2024 by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
According to WIPO, the Global Innovation Index (GII) ranks world economies according to their innovation capabilities. Consisting of roughly 80 indicators, grouped into innovation inputs and outputs, the GII aims to capture the multi-dimensional facets of innovation.
Announcing on social media platform X, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal stated, “India rises to 39th position among 133 global economies in the Global Innovation Index 2024! Guided by PM @NarendraModiji’s decisive leadership, India achieves these remarkable milestones:
-1st among 10 economies in Central & Southern Asia
-1st among lower-middle-income economies
-4th in @WIPO Science & Technology (S&T) Cluster Ranking, with Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru & Chennai in the World’s Top 100 S&T clusters
-7th globally in intangible asset intensity.”
Goyal also mentioned that India’s innovation landscape continues to flourish, powered by our innovators and entrepreneurs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also hailed India rising to 39th position among 133 global economies in the Global Innovation Index 2024. Modi described this achievement as a “remarkable feat,” emphasizing the government’s dedication to building a vibrant Innovation ecosystem that can transform opportunities for the nation’s youth.
