On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Government of India has announced a reduction of Rs 100 on LPG cylinder. This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X where he stated that the discount will “significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti.”
The Prime Minister also said that by making cooking gas more affordable, the government aims “to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment”, in line with its commitment to empowering women and ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for them.
In another post, PM Modi extended his greetings on IWD and said, “We salute the strength, courage, and resilience of our Nari Shakti and laud their accomplishments across various fields.” He asserted that the government is “committed to empowering women through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and more.” This is also reflected in our accomplishments in the last decade, he added.
Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Z Irani, congratulated PM Modi for his “sensitive decision in the interest of crores of mothers and sisters” to reduce the price of the LPG cylinder. Welcoming the decision, she said, “In the context of creating ‘smoke-free kitchens’, this decision will provide financial benefits to the women power of the country and their family members and will make their lives easier.”
Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, in his message, said that IWD is a day “to recognise invaluable contributions and to celebrate the unmatched achievements of our mothers and sisters, in all walks of life” and expressed “heartfelt gratitude to every woman, whose care, compassion and unique sense of responsibilities is an eternal source of inspiration to each and everyone of us.”
