Hours after the members of Parliament led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the martyrs of 2001 Parliament attack, two intruders entered Lok Sabha and opened gas cannisters that emitted yellow coloured smoke.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla later informed that investigation has begun on the incident and that the smoke from the cannister has not been found to be dangerous. Two persons had been arrested from inside the house and two from outside the Parliament.

In the live telecast of the LS proceedings, a person could be seen jumping on desks as Members of Parliament try to catch him.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, sharing his experience on X, said, “Saw two young men unleash foul smelling yellow coloured gas from canisters inside Parliament gallery. MPs rushed to grab these men. One person was raising some slogans. This raises serious questions on another aspect of the new Parliament building-  security.”

After the house returned, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury questioned the attack on the day floral tributes were paid to the nine martyrs of the Parliament attack and asked, “Does it prove that we failed to maintain a high level of security?”. “All the MPs fearlessly nabbed the two people but I want to know where were the security officials when all of this happened?” he said.

A woman who was arrested outside the Parliament was shouting various slogans as she was being led away casually by one policewoman. She told the media people that they are neither from any organisations nor protesting against a particular issue. The woman also mentioned that they were students and unemployed people and that they were against the government not allowing them to speak, violence against women, etc.
