BY | Monday, 17 March, 2025

The Kohima District Inter-Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) and Government High School (GHS) Tournament on March 17 at D. Khel Kohima Village Ground.

According to an update from the management committee, Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, PS to the Advisor for School Education and SCERT Nagaland, graced the inaugural program as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the critical role of education in fostering individual growth, economic development, and social progress.

He emphasized that while education is vital, the rising competition in academics and employment demands a shift in mindset among students.

Citing statistics, Dr. Dzüvichü noted that Nagaland’s population stood at 19,78,502 as per the 2011 Census, with a literacy rate of 79.55%. As of March 31, 2021, the state government employed 1,23,182 people, accounting for 6.22% of the total population. However, with 92,302 educated unemployed youth registered in Nagaland as of January 2022—the highest in the country—he urged intellectuals to explore alternative career paths for the younger generation beyond government jobs.

He stressed the need to tap into the hidden potential of youth and connect them with available state resources for productive employment.

While acknowledging the limited provisions for sportspersons in government jobs and the education sector, he expressed optimism about the upcoming Nagaland School Education Sports Policy, spearheaded by Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome. He hoped the policy would motivate and uplift young athletes.

Dr. Dzüvichü categorized sports into three areas: as a hobby, as a profession, and as a means to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  He also reminded the participants that in sports, whether you win or lose, always respect their opponent, play fair, and be kind.
