The monthly meeting of the Kohima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) was held at the DPDB Conference Hall, Kohima on June 18 under the chairmanship of MLA and outgoing Chairman of DPDB Kohima, Kevipodi Sophie. Advisor for School Education and incoming Chairman of DPDB Kohima, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, and Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the members, Kevipodi Sophie thanked all board members for their support and cooperation during his tenure and expressed gratitude to the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio for entrusting him with the responsibility of chairing the Kohima DPDB during 2025-26.
Deputy Commissioner, B Henok Buchem acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing chairman and stated that several achievements were made under his leadership, including the successful organisation of the Dr T Ao Trophy tournament. He also welcomed the incoming chairman and expressed confidence in his leadership.
Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome congratulated the outgoing chairman for completing a successful tenure and said that the rotation of DPDB chairmen was a government policy. He called upon all departments to remain familiar with their responsibilities and make information on departmental activities accessible for the benefit of the public.
He further observed that certain improvements may be required in the implementation of LADP schemes and the Village Adoption Committee concept to enhance their effectiveness. To enable members to better understand ground realities, he proposed that future DPDB meetings be conducted in different constituencies with dates fixed in advance to ensure wider participation.

On the agenda, the Board deliberated on the proposal for upgradation of Jakhama Headquarters to Jakhama Town Council. SDO (Civil), Jakhama, Vineikho Tetso, briefed the members on the background of the proposal and informed that the administrative circle was established in 1960 as an Area Superintendent Office, predating statehood. After discussion, the Board agreed to recommend the proposal to the State Government for further consideration.
The Board also recommended the upgradation of Vision Hill School, Kohima, from Class VII to Class VIII and decided to forward the proposal to the concerned department for necessary action.
ADC Kohima, Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, presented a brief report on the observance of World Blood Donor Day 2026 and the blood donation camp held on June 12 at the Capital Convention Centre. Organised by the Kohima DPDB in collaboration with the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland (VBDAN), the programme was attended by Governor Nand Kishore Yadav. More than 50 individuals, including the Deputy Commissioner, donated blood during the camp.
The presentation on Solid Waste Management Rules by the Kohima Municipal Council was deferred to the next meeting.
