Kohima Forest Division and Government Middle School, Forest Colony observe World Ozone Day

Kohima: Every year World Ozone Day or the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed on 16 September

World Ozone Day 2022 was observed here in Kohima today by the Kohima Forest Division, Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change in collaboration with the Government Middle School (GMS), Forest Colony, Kohima.

Every year World Ozone Day or the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed on 16 September as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme for 2022 is ‘Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth’ in recognition of the 35 years of impact the Montreal Protocol has had on climate change and collaborative efforts across the globe.

The UN General Assembly declared 16 September as World Ozone Day in 1994 to commemorate the date of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.

A total of 250 participants including students, teachers and staff of the Kohima Range took part in the Kohima event.

Pezaneinuo Chielie, Range Forest Officer, Kohima Range welcomed the gathering and gave the keynote address. She encouraged the participants to actively and consciously be responsible for protecting the environment and contribute in individual ways towards this common goal.

The resource person of the programmen, Avezo Ruho, Forester-I, highlighted the causes, effects and solutions for protecting the Ozone layer.

A short speech was also given by Albert Tungoe, Head Teacher, GMS Forest Colony Kohima while Grace Peletuo-ii, teacher of GMS, chaired the programme. Another teacher of GMS, Enok Awomi, invoked the blessings while Dziesezolie Khezhie, Forester-I proposed the vote of thanks.
