With the Dr. T Ao Inter-District Football Tournament being scheduled to be held from August 1-15 in Kohima, officials in the state capital held a consultative meeting on May 8 at the DPDB Hall Kohima to discuss and coordinate preparations.
MLA Benei M Lamthiu, who is also the general secretary of Nagaland Football Association (NFA), highlighted the tremendous improvement in the standard of football tournaments in the state, stressing the importance of serious and dedicated organisation. He stated that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) considers Nagaland a key player in football development in the region as well as across the country.
For the forthcoming tournament, Lamthiu called upon all officers to be proactive in their responsibilities and assured that the NFA would extend technical support to ensure the success of the tournament, which, he said will serve as a crucial platform for young footballers.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima B Henok Buchem highlighted the standards set by Tuensang district in hosting the previous edition of the tournament. He urged Kohima officials to strive to surpass those benchmarks in the upcoming event.
NFA president K Neibou Sekhose shared insights on the tournament’s history and significance, noting its official recognition by the AIFF adding that all players and officials involved will be officially registered in the portal.
The meeting concluded with a detailed discussion among Kohima district officers regarding the formation of various committees and a roadmap for the successful organisation of the tournament.
