MDFA 2023: Moanungsang MSM and NU Lumami secure their wins on Day 7

Moanungsang MSM and NU Lumami secured their wins on day seven at the ongoing MDFA 2023 Tournament at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 24.

Moanungsang MSM, last year’s Runners-up, left no room for doubt as they triumphed over Brotherhood with an impressive 4-1 scoreline. Rongsenchiba (J/No.19) of Moanungsang led the charge with an early goal in the 9th minute and added another in the 19th minute. Brotherhood’s Tarepnungsang (J/No.7) managed to find the net for his team in the 32nd minute, their only goal of the match. Moanungsang’s Jungshiwati (J/No.11) and Molutsupong (J/No.6) also got on the scoresheet with a goal each in the 79th and 89th minute, securing an impressive nine goals in total for Moanungsang MSM in the tournament, marking their second win and paving their entry into the First quarters as Pool A leader.

In the second match of the day, NU Lumami secured their second win of the tournament, prevailing over Araka United in a hard-fought battle with a final score of 3-2. Putimeren (J/No.7) of Araka United opened the scoring with a goal in the 3rd minute. Wangtin Konyak (J/No. 8) of NU Lumami quickly equalized with a goal in the 34th minute. Lumami took control when M Phaowang (J/No. 7) found the back of the net in the 49th minute. However, Chubawati (J/No.4) of Araka United leveled the score at 2-2 with a goal in the 57th minute. It was M Phaowang (J/No. 7) of NU Lumami who thrashed the hopes of Araka United with a crucial goal in the 86th minute, just four minutes before full time.

NU Lumami has now tallied seven goals in the ongoing MDFA 2023 tournament, with M Phaowang (J/No. 7) impressively contributing four goals in just two matches. Their next challenge will be against defending Champion Telongjem FC in a crucial third match, setting the stage for a do-or-die situation with both teams having secured two wins each and help themselves secure the spot of the leading team from Pool B.

Looking ahead, Wednesday’s matches will feature Legendary Yeomanly Misfits taking on Sports Society Soyim (SSS) in the first match, and Super Seniors will go head-to-head with Lomuden FC in the second match
