The Ministry of Education has announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on 18th June 2024 to “ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process”.
The ministry said that on 19th June 2024, the UGC received certain inputs from National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination.
“These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” it stated.
This announcement has come amid the controversy surrounding NEET-UG Examination 2024, the result of which was declared on 4th June 2024.
The Education Ministry said that a fresh UGC-NET examination will be conducted. It also informed that the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for thorough investigation.
The NTA conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) on behalf of University Grants Commission for (i) ‘award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor’, (ii) ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’ and (iii) ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ in 83 subjects.
On 18th June 2024, the examination was conducted at 1205 Exam Centres in 317 cities across the country for 11,21,225 registered candidates, out of which 81 % candidates appeared for the exam.
