Mokokchung Festival 2024: A celebration of culture, music, and community

The Mokokchung Festival 2024, held from December 17 to 19 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, concluded today, leaving attendees with memorable experiences of culture, music, and community engagement.

Honoured Chief Festival Patron Benjong Samanir (Chief Guest) Metsubo Jamir, Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Government of Nagaland,  graced the epilogue session. The event, a collaborative effort with various partners including Nagaland Minerals & Mines, saw vibrant participation from diverse groups, businesses, and organizations.

MDACC Awards and Tenem Ola Concert

The concluding day featured the prestigious MDACC Awards, honoring contributions to the arts and culture. This was followed by the Tenem Ola AO concert, a tribute to the local heritage and language through music.

Molung Imsong was awarded the prestigious MDACC Award for his remarkable contributions as a gospel singer, songwriter, and composer. Born on September 26, 1993, in Changtongya, Molung has released 380 songs, 10 albums, and over 80 YouTube videos. A graduate of Discipleship Bible College, Dimapur, he is known for his inspirational tracks such as Tsüngrem Ain Lir, Mesüngjemtetba Tanela, and Molumi, which reflect his dedication to celebrating God’s grace and love through music.

A Celebration of Culture and Collaboration

The festival celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Mokokchung and provided a platform for musicians, artisans, and local businesses to shine. With 60 stalls from local and external vendors, it was a hub of commerce and creativity. The event also emphasized community collaboration, making it a truly inclusive and vibrant celebration.

Imtiakum, Advisor of Soundscape Enterprise organizing committee, extended gratitude to all collaborative partners, sponsors, and the vibrant Mokokchung community for making the event a grand success.

Inaugural Highlights

The festival was inaugurated on December 17, with Lanuakum Lemtur, Deputy Chairman of the Mokokchung Municipal Council, gracing the occasion as the Inaugural Guest. The ceremony included speeches from Ao Senden, the President of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town, and the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council. The event also featured a cultural performance competition and the official opening of 60 stalls, showcasing products and crafts from both local entrepreneurs and vendors from outside Mokokchung.

Abena Imsong, the host of the inaugural session, facilitated a lineup of engaging programs, including cultural dances and a traditional performance of the Waro Raga by the Fazl Ali College Students’ Union.

Rockatron Rock Concert

One of the main highlights was the Rockatron Rock Concert held on December 18, featuring prominent bands such as Girish and The Chronicles, Since 90’s, The Spectrums, and Sideline. Longden Longkumer, Managing Director of LL Group and Proprietor of Note Grid School of Music and Media Studio, was the Guest of Honour for the event.

The concert attracted a large audience, showcasing the vibrant rock music scene in Mokokchung.

Last celebrated in 2016, the event made its comeback after 8 years. The Festival was first celebrated in 2006.
