Chumoukedima DPDB meeting held

The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Chumoukedima, was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on July 10 under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs & Chairman, DPDB Chumoukedima, Zhaleo Rio. Advisor for Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu also attended the meeting.

Addressing the members, Advisor Zhaleo Rio said that with more government offices being established in Chumoukedima district, officers should discharge their responsibilities with dedication and sincerity. He urged all officers to serve with a sense of purpose and commitment rather than viewing their duties merely as employment.

Advisor for Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, while addressing the house, said every DPDB meeting provides an opportunity for reflection on how “Team Chumoukedima” is performing and how the district can move forward with a shared vision. She observed that despite the financial constraints faced by the State and the challenges in revenue generation, concerted efforts are required to strengthen the local economy.

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, she said the groundwork must begin now by supporting MSMEs and local enterprises, with the ultimate objective of ensuring that developmental initiatives directly benefit the people.

The board also considered applications for society registration. After scrutiny and deliberation, it approved and recommended the registration of Pro Village, Molvom Village, and Odia Samaj Nagaland, 4th Mile, Diphupar.

The board discussed and approved the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) proposals for 2026-2027.

On the proposal for establishment of a District Industries Centre (DIC) in Chumoukedima, the board noted that the matter is under consideration at the Government level. While agreeing in principle to the proposal, the board noted that the establishment would be carried out following due government procedures.

The board also deliberated on a representation submitted by the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) regarding the reconstruction of the suspension bridge at Chumoukedima Saturday Bazaar, which was damaged during the monsoon floods, and the construction of a foot overbridge at the same location. The house recommended that the matter be taken up with the State PWD and noted that ₹4 lakh had earlier been provided by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) for restoration works.

Presenting a brief report on the ongoing Census exercise, Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Lemlila Sangtam, NCS informed the board that around 25 per cent coverage has been achieved so far. She said the district has five Charge Officers overseeing the exercise and expressed confidence that the exercise in the district would be completed within the stipulated timeline.

During the meeting, Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), delivered a PowerPoint presentation on Solid Waste Management, highlighting the importance of scientific waste segregation, collection and disposal for environmental sustainability. On solid waste management, Rio stressed that every citizen should become an agent of change by following the Solid Waste Management Rules.

He called for close coordination between the district administration, Chümoukedima Town Council and the public to ensure effective waste management. He emphasised strict compliance with waste segregation practices and urged all stakeholders to educate the public on proper waste disposal, adding that Chumoukedima should strive to become a model district for others to emulate.

The board decided that the Urban Development Department will make a PowerPoint presentation during the next DPDB meeting.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from the chair.
