Mokokchung hosts ODOP workshop on coffee to boost local economy

A one-day workshop on the “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative for coffee was successfully held at the Sangtemla Community Hall in Mokokchung on  August 19.  Organized by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Mokokchung, on the theme “Branding, Packaging, Marketing,” the event aimed to strengthen local products, boost entrepreurship, and create better market opportunities for the region.

Special guest, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, DC Mokokchung, in his keynote address commended the DIC for organizing the event and explained that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched the ODOP initiative to transform local farmers and small businesses into international brands.

Stressing the importance of training, market access, and global reach, Verma urged local coffee farmers and producers to actively participate, learn new skills, and focus on product quality, processing, and certification to make Mokokchung coffee a recognized global brand.

The event was smoothly conducted across multiple sessions to give farmers practical business knowledge. The inaugural session was chaired by Renbenthung Kikon, Inspector of Industries at DIC Mokokchung, while B Asangla, General Manager of DIC Mokokchung, welcomed the gathering. Following the opening ceremony, a detailed technical session took place featuring expert speakers.

Er T Imlisunep Ao, Principal of GITI Mokokchung, shared valuable insights on marketing opportunities and channels. General branding and packaging strategies were covered by Atipong Aier, CEO of Aier Bakery and Co-Owner of Body Balance, while Aliamoa S. Longkumer, Proprietor of Mascot Store & Café, focused specifically on coffee branding and packaging. The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing local farmers and entrepreneurs to discuss ideas directly with the experts.
