The Nagaland Legislative Assembly today unanimously adopted ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Amendment Act, 2019 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Rules, 2020’.
The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday, the first day of the second session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister said the Cabinet has approved for adoption of ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Amendment Act, 2019, and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Rules, 2020’.

The resolution read, “Whereas, in the interest of the public, the State Government had adopted ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012’ on 26th September, 2016. And whereas, The Ministry of Law and Justice notified ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act, 2019’ amending the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 on the 5th of August, 2019 under Article 252 of the Constitution and subsequently, adopted by various States. And whereas, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 45 of POCSO Act, 2012 (32 of 2012)- Powers to make rules, Ministry of Women and Child Development has developed and notified ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, Rules, 2020’ on 9th March, 2020.”
