Nagaland Police has informed that between 24th August and 3rd September 2024, it conducted five MVPs (Mobile Vehicle check posts) throughout the State at specific intervals utilizing DEF, NAP and IRB personnel covering all major routes including arterial and axial nodes.
In a communique, the State police force said that on each day of the exercise, almost 225 MVPs were established and that a total of 14,910 vehicles were checked. During this exercise on a randomize basis, attempts have been made to check private and commercial vehicles simultaneously all over the State to verify vehicle documents, to check carriage of contraband, IMFL, Narcotics, illegal arms, illegal substances and to keep citizens secure, it stated.
The Nagaland Police has further disclosed the outcome of its exercise:
– 258 numbers of vehicles were compounded under various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
– 8 vehicles have been seized for not having valid documents
– Rs 40,500/- amount of fines were realized for violation
– 568 numbers of bottles of IMFL / Rum and 489 cans of Beer have been seized and criminal cases have been registered under NLTP Act.
– 20 soap cases of suspected Brown Sugar, 258 numbers of Spasmoproxyvon capsules and one bottle of codeine have been seized and cases registered under NDPS Act
– A total of 19 ILP defaulters have been detained
Further, the state police force has informed that some inconveniences may have been caused due to the MVPs but “Nagaland Police is seized of the matter and we shall endeavor to ensure that multiple checking of a vehicle on a single trip can be minimize or avoided.”
