Nagaland is expected to witness heavy rainfall in nearly every district until June 5, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, informed the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in its weather updates issued on May 28.

On May 29, light to moderate rainfall has been predicted at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Phek and Mon.

“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50Kmph gusting to 60Kmph is very likely to prevail over many districts of Nagaland. From May 29 to May 31, 2025, all of Nagaland’s districts are expected to see heavy rainfall, with Kohima, Phek and Tseminyu districts receiving exceptionally heavy rain from June 2 to June 5, 2025, while the other districts may see extremely heavy rain from June 1 to June 5, 2025. As a result, it is vital to take the necessary measures at this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high winds, which can disrupt communication and connectivity,” cautioned the NSDMA.

Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, will be vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods.

In this regard, the NSDMA, Home Department has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period.  The NSDMA, Home Department has also requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.
