The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has today condemned the extension of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) on 1 April 2024,in parts of Nagaland by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
In a directive addressed to its Affiliated and Subordinate Units, the CSU has directed all the affiliated and subordinate units to extend non-cooperation and abstain from any association with the Indian Armed Forces operating under the purview of the AFSPA. “We shall stand united in our refusal to comply with any directives issued under this draconian law,” asserted the Union.
Expressing great concern and indignation over the extension of the Disturbed areas in the State, the CSU stated, “This unjust extension only exacerbates the fear and unrest already prevalent in our state. The AFSPA grants unbridled power to the armed forces deployed in “disturbed areas”, leading to a flagrant disregard for human rights and the rule of law. It perpetuates a climate of fear and intimidation among our people, undermining the very fabric of our society.”

Let us unite in our resolve to combat oppression and injustice, and work towards a future where the rights and freedoms of all citizens are safeguarded,” asserted statement issued by Pfhülo Sara, President, and Kuzoto Swuro, General Secretary.
