The 2nd Mr Northeast Bodybuilding & Physique Championship 2026 would be held on September 12 at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, with around 70–80 athletes from across the Northeast expected to participate.

The Championship is being organised by the Nagaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association under the aegis of the Northeast Bodybuilders Federation. Registration and weighing-in of athletes were conducted on Friday at 2K Hotel, Kohima.

Speaking ahead of the championship, Northeast Bodybuilders Federation president, Pema WD Bhutia said athletes from nearly all the northeastern states had arrived in Kohima, while registration of a few more states was still awaited.

He said the event would provide a platform to promote bodybuilding, fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the youth of the region.

“Bodybuilding and fitness” can help create greater awareness among young people and encourage them to stay away from harmful activities, Bhutia said, adding that while such activities cannot be eradicated at once, initiatives promoting fitness could make a positive contribution.

According to Bhutia, the championship is expected to draw more than 80 athletes once all participating states complete their registration.

Addressing queries regarding social media advertisements promising individuals a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh for losing weight within 100 days, Bhutia expressed scepticism over such claims.

He said weight loss and weight gain were both achievable through proper fitness and bodybuilding programmes, but cautioned against unrealistic promises.

Bhutia invited people from Kohima, Dimapur and other nearby areas to attend the event, saying the championship would not only promote bodybuilding and fitness but also create a positive environment and inspire young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.

He also appreciated the Nagaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association for organising the championship and expressed hope that the event would emerge as one of the biggest bodybuilding and fitness competitions in the Northeast.
