The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has stated that it has “steadfastly upheld and stood by” the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989 which was enacted and enforced when the Congress Party was ruling in the State “in accordance with the strong and unanimous public sentiment that prevailed during those times.”

Stating its objection to the State Government’s intention to amend its laws, the NPCC has urged the same to reconsider its decision “or at the very least hold extensive consultations and consensus building exercises with all stakeholders before arriving at one.”

It also appealed to the people of Nagaland “to consider contemporary realities and approach the issue with an objective and conciliatory spirit.”
