NU observes anti-ragging week with “unite against ragging” program

Nagaland University hosted a significant program as part of its Anti-Ragging Week, themed “Unite Against Ragging,” at the I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami on August 16, 2024, informed Peter Ki, PRO Nagaland University, Lumami.

The event was honoured by Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, who served as the Chief Guest.

In his address, Prof. Patnaik highlighted the university’s exceptional track record, noting with pride that no cases of ragging have been reported since the institution’s establishment. This achievement underscores Nagaland University’s steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all its students. He extended a warm welcome to the new students, reassuring them that their time at the university will be both memorable and enriching.

The program featured insightful contributions from several key figures. Prof. Wangshimenla, Dean of Student Welfare and Chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee, offered an overview of the week’s activities. The event began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Gyati Yam, Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry and Convenor. Attendees were then engaged by two thought-provoking lectures on anti-ragging delivered by Dr. Kuldeep Singh Panwar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, and Dr. Ramita Sougrakpam, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.

The week also included various competitions aimed at promoting awareness and engagement, with winners announced by Dr. Pitheli K. Jimo, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. The event was chaired by Repakaba Tzudir, a student of the university, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sungkum Jamir, Medical Officer and Member of the committee.

The successful execution of this program highlighted Nagaland University’s ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive and respectful campus environment, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on ragging.
