A one day Orientation on National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) for Medical Officers, Community Health Officers and Staff Nurses was held on May 15, at the conference Hall, DoHFW, Kohima, informed a DIPR report.
Speaking during a short inaugural program Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton, Principal Director,q DoHFW, Nagaland while addressing the MOs, CHOs and Nurses, said that, it is a privilege to serve the people especially in the interior part of the Districts. “We should take it as an opportunity as we are providing health care services to the needy people,” said Dr. Patton appealing the health care providers present to work relentlessly with an aim to improve the health indicators and in giving quality health care to the people.
Dr. Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland stated that more focus is given in providing quality healthcare in the Public Health Sector in the country. NQAS is the highest quality certification for public health facility in recognition of the high standard maintained by public health units, said Dr. Akuo adding, “NQAS main focus is to enhance satisfaction level of patients seeking Public facilities and to rebuild the trust in Public Health system while ensuring quality health care and at the same time maintaining the ethical standard”. Dr. Sohrie urged the participant present to try their best to make the Health Units within their jurisdiction to make them an NQAS certified Health Units.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer, NHM, Nagaland stated that the National Health Policy 2017 aims at Universal Health coverage for all which will be achieved only when we give excellent, safe and quality health care. She also highlighted on the Ministry of Health GoI’s emphasis on quality by ensuring that all the Health Units are being NQAS Certified and that, getting this certification is a key indicator not only for Niti Ayog ranking but also for aspirational blocks.
The program was chaired by Dr. Kheshika Yeptho, Deputy Director, NHM, and Nagaland. In our State so far, three Urban Primary Health Units and two Primary Health Units have achieved NQAS Certification. Government of India have decided that, for NQAS Certification, the State should achieve 50 percent of Public Health NQAS certified by 2025 and 100 percent by December 2026.
