Orientation Programme for PG & PhD scholars held at Nagaland University

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, successfully conducted an Orientation and Induction Programme for newly admitted postgraduate students and Ph.D. scholars on August 19.

The programme brought together students from the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme and M.Tech programmes in Information Technology, Data Science (Computer Science and Engineering), and Food Process Engineering (Agricultural Engineering and Technology), along with newly admitted Ph.D. scholars from Biotechnology, Information Technology, and Agricultural Engineering and Technology.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, Convener of the Induction Committee, who warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and research scholars to Nagaland University. He highlighted the importance of the orientation programme in familiarising students with the academic and research environment of the School and encouraged them to make effective use of the interdisciplinary opportunities and facilities available at the University.

The welcome address was followed by an engaging ice-breaking and self-introduction session, during which the newly admitted postgraduate students and Ph.D. scholars introduced themselves and interacted with their peers. The session provided an opportunity for students from different disciplines and backgrounds to connect with one another and marked the beginning of their academic journey at the University.

The programme was graced by Prof Sujata Dash, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, who welcomed the students and scholars to the School. In her address, she elaborated on the growing importance of interdisciplinary education and research and encouraged students to explore opportunities for collaboration across engineering, technology and biotechnology disciplines. She emphasized that interdisciplinary approaches are increasingly essential for addressing complex scientific, technological and societal challenges.

The programme provided the newly admitted students and research scholars with an opportunity to interact with the academic community and gain an understanding of the School’s academic and research ecosystem. It also emphasized the importance of collaboration, innovation, academic excellence and interdisciplinary research as integral components of postgraduate and doctoral education.
