The Nagaland Olympic Association, in a press release dated 19 August 2022, shared the Prime Minister’s message. The Association while appreciating the message, also hoped for his support and guidance in the future too.
The Prime Minister in his message acknowledged the motto of the Games and that “Stronger together” captures the spirit of sports and its impact.
“Sports knows no boundaries or barriers, no division or disharmony. People may belong to any social or economic background outside, but on the field, they are athletes who are pushing their limits in a quest to bring glory to their team, district, state or nation”, Modi shared in the message.
Prime Minister, Modi further highlighted that the Games are the biggest ever sports meet in the state of Nagaland and hoped that it would pave the way for many young sportspersons to make their mark both nationally and internationally.
He also acknowledged how the Games are furthering the cause of empowerment by starting the tradition of including Paralympic sports at the State Games.
Modi concluded his message with best wishes to the sportspersons participating in the Games as well as appreciating the coaches and support staff for encouraging and guiding young athletes.
The Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022 are to be held from 22 to 27 August 2022 in Kohima, Dimapur and Longleng, with 11 disciplines for the Games namely – Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Lawn Tennis, Shooting Sports, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Wushu. Prior to the Opening Ceremony scheduled for 22nd August, Men’s Football commenced on 17 August 2022.
