The Ministry of Defence has said that the search efforts for one Laishram Kamalbabu Singh have been intensified in West Imphal. The 56-year-old reportedly entered the Leimakhong Army camp, where he works, on the morning of 25th November and has since been missing.
In a press release, the PRO and Spokesperson of Ministry of Defence stated that the Indian Army and the Manipur Police are conducting joint search operations in the region. It also informed that regular meetings have been held with village heads and community elders to further strengthen the search by gathering information and seek assistance.
Earlier on 26th November 2024, the Manipur Police had said that all out efforts are being made by District Police of Imphal West and Kangpokpi along with army teams under the personal supervision of GOC 57 Mountain Division. It also informed that physical search operations were being carried out in the village of Leimakhong and adjoining areas by the security forces to trace out the missing person.
The locals from the Meitei community have assumed that Laishram Kamalbabu Singh has been abducted by Kuki militants and organised road blockades and protests.
On 27th November, the Manipur Police clarified that news spreading on social media about a dead body found inside the Army campus in Leimakhong was “not true”.
