KOHIMA:
Minster PHED & Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, graced the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 culmination program as the chief guest at Capital Convention Centre Kohima on 2nd October 2024.
Zhimomi in his address said that it is the biggest cleanliness campaign across the country and the world with an impactful culmination. Since its official launch on 2nd October 2014, within 10 years of Swachh Bharat Mission, significant progress have come to light in construction of toilets, infant mortality rate, children and women lives were saved, solid and liquid waste management systems, villages have attained ODF status.
Nagaland with 747 villages,ODF villages 406, model villages 39 and rising villages 302 as September 2024, he also emphasized that, every individual is equally responsible for cleanliness campaign to make our environment clean for everyone. He appealed the gathering and the people of the state to cooperate with the line Departments and the Government to effectively change the mindsets to create or make Nagaland a safest place. He also thanked and congratulate Urban Development Department, PHED, Municipal Councils, Town Councils, block levels and villages for their contributions and support in various capacities making for the best outcome of the holistic Mission. Zhimomi also handed over the awards to all the awardees.
Highlights of the program included acknowledgement & presentation of SHS 2024 Nagaland journey by Mission Director, SBM-U, Kezhochole Rhetso, special number by Keneisedenuo & Sisters and Kekhokhrie SHG. Urban Development Department did the honor of awarding awards for the Best Waste-to-Art, Best transformed/beautified CTU, Best resourceful ULB and best Performing ULB.
Chief Executive Officer, KMC, T. Lanusenla Longkumer, also did the honor of awarding certificates to16 successful participants who have supported in this Campaign representing from various schools and colleges. Mission Director SBM-G, Er. Gwatilo Tep delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was chaired by Commissioner & Secretary, UDD&DMA, Kekhrievor Kevichusa. The programme was also attended by Advisors, A. Pangjung Jamir, Er. Kropol Vitsu and Sethrongkyu
DIMAPUR:
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) held the culmination cum award ceremony of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign on 2nd October 2024 at the Lion’s Club Hall, Nepali Basti, Dimapur. The event marked the successful conclusion of a series of activities promoting cleanliness and sanitation in the city.
Chief Executive Officer of DMC, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, provided the highlight of SHS 2024, outlining the efforts and impact of the campaign said thar Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) campaign under the banner “Swachhata Hi Seva,” is an initiative aimed at cleaning the environment and promoting hygiene across the city. The campaign witnessed a wide array of activities organized to engage the public and spread awareness on the importance of cleanliness.
Key activities undertaken by the DMC included a Mini Marathon and a Ride for Cleanliness, as well as a Cleanliness Awareness Campaign targeting churches, schools, colleges, and local shopkeepers. The council also focused on the cleaning and beautification of Clean Target Units (CTU) in collaboration with local organizations, including Bongs and the Development Authority of Nagaland.
He said as a part of the campaign, a poster making competition was organized, with participants from various schools competing. The DMC also invited the Chief Minister of Nagaland to plant a tree at the newly established DMC office, symbolizing the state’s commitment to the cause.
In addition, the DMC launched the Beautification cum Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) program, which involved visiting schools to conduct seminars and spreading awareness about cleanliness. The Swachh on Wheels initiative was also implemented, with over 200 auto-rickshaws displaying cleanliness posters throughout the city. The campaign included a free health check-up for sanitation workers and their families, while their wives were taught paper bag-making skills to promote eco-friendly alternatives.
Further activities included the distribution of dry rations to sanitation workers, and a visit to the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centre, where participants interacted and learned about waste management. The campaign also included with a Mass Cleanliness Drive, a Waste 2 Art an artwork by Artsy Naga is being displayed at the City Tower and street plays to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness.
He expressed his gratitude to the entire team and participants, encouraging continued efforts to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the community.
The special guest, Hukheto Yepthomi, Chairperson of DMC, addressed the gathering, lauding the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved in the campaign.
Yepthomi highlighted how the movement has brought communities together with a shared vision of cleanliness. He praised the unity and collaboration between schoolchildren, senior citizens, churches, and shopkeepers, stating that everyone has contributed not only by cleaning their surroundings but also by changing their mind set towards hygiene.
Yepthomi acknowledged the various activities taken up by different groups and organizations, which he said were a testament to collective responsibility and action. He emphasized that while spreading awareness is important, it is equally crucial to take responsibility for managing waste.
He stated that in 2023, Dimapur generated around 84 metric tonnes of waste, and it must have increased by now. And so one must be mindful of how we use resources and manage waste properly. Cleanliness is one aspect, but waste management is another. Sensible waste management will allow the DMC to focus on other important activities, he said.
Yepthomi reminded the public that cleanliness is a continuous journey and urged everyone to keep the spirit of cleanliness alive. “The seeds we plant today will grow into a cleaner future,” he added.
Short speeches were delivered by Achum Jami, Convenor of DMC Sanitation, and Mhonjan Humtsoe, Coordinator of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024, they highlighted the importance of community involvement in keeping Dimapur clean.
Both speakers expressed gratitude to the schools, colleges, and NGOs that actively participated in the campaign. They also extended thanks to the DMC chairman and councillors for their continuous support.
Humtsoe emphasized the need for Nagas to develop a sense of civic responsibility, urging the community to adopt better practices for a cleaner future. Both Jami and Humtsoe promised to improve the campaign in the coming year.
Awards for Swachh Bharat Mission competitions results were also declared during the event and the winners were facilitated by the special guest. The award winners are as follows:

ZUNHEBOTO:
The culmination programme of Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, 2024 and Swach Bharat Diwas was held at Town Hall Zunheboto on 2nd October, which was organised by the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC).
Chairing the programme, SDO©, Zunheboto, Rohbi Sangtam highlighted that the campaign aims to achieve a vision of the government of India and the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi of seeing a cleaner and healthier India.
Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS while addressing the final day of the campaign, briefly highlighted the aims and visions of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign by saying that mission is to sensitise, educate and sanitize the entire nation, visioning to create a cleaner and healthier nation. He appealed to everyone to do our bit, which would gradually impact hugely collectively. The DC concluded by saying that, Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was a symbol of Sanitation, who always advocated the importance of Clean India.
Earlier, a Mega Social Work was initiated at the town, where the entire citizen of Zunheboto town actively participated to beautify the town through sanitation. The beautification and sanitation of the town carried cash prizes, judged according to wards of the town which was sponsored by Office of the Zunheboto Town Council.
During the entire campaign, various inter schools/colleges, inter wards/colonies competitions were initiated and culminated with prize distribution and culmination programme. The highlights of the final day were, Model Sanitation Plan, for Zunheboto District, which was a competition for schools and colleges where Corner Stone Higher Secondary School bagged the 1st place and 2nd place went to Bethany High School. In Colony/Wards competition on cleanliness, waste management and beautification, North Point colony was adjudged as the winner with Khuwaboto colony claiming the 2nd place followed by two colonies, Old Town and DC Hill as joint 3rd place winners.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, delivered by Chairman, Zunheboto Town Council, K. Herato Sükhalu.
MEDZIPHEMA:
As part of India’s ongoing efforts to promote cleanliness and hygiene, Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign was observed from September-17th to October- 2nd 2024 at Medziphema sub-division, with the theme “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata”. The campaign is a prelude to the Swachh Bharat Diwas which was on 2nd October 2024 all over India
Medziphema Town Council (MTC) Medziphema Administration successfully conducted various activities being undertaken namely, launching of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024, and reduce, reuse, recycle centre and inauguration of selfie point, a walk for Swachhata campaign, mission CTUs with the theme “Medziphema vs black spots, flower plantain at NH-29 road divider, the power of students in swachhata, waste-hunt cricket exhibition match, MTC vs Chamber of Commerce with the theme “Batting for a Litter-Free World’ Safai Mitra Week, mission cleaner and healthier Medziphema Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam marathon with the theme Sweat for Swachh bike rally with the theme “wheels for waste management” Nukkad Natak, waste to art and sculpture competition for school, students cum exhibition, clearing of CTUs and updating in the portal .
The 15-day campaign culminated on 2nd October 2024 with mass social work at Medziphema Sub-division all government departments, NGOs, schools, CSOs, Churches, Clubs, Town councillors, Village Councils and various organisations enthusiastically participating in the various activities making the Swachhata He Seva 2024 a successful campaign.

SATAKHA:
The culmination programme of Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024 under Satakha Town Council was observed at Town Hall, Satakha, Zunheboto on 2nd October 2024.
ADC Satakha and Team Captain M.S Thangpong thanked all participants and public for actively participating in the various activities during the period of the campaign and culmination programme of Swachhata Hi Seva, and Swach Bharat Diwas from 17th September – 2nd October 2024.
YINGLI COLLEGE LONGLENG:
Yingli Government College, Longleng observed the culmination of Swachhata Hi Seva, on 2nd October 2024 as per the notification of Youth Resources & Sports and also as per the resolution of the NSS Committee of the College.
As Part of “grand end on program “SHS 2024 (phase -iii of shs,2024) the NSS Wing, Yingli College Longleng, organized a cleanliness drive in and around the Oushok Village (NSS Adopted Village). Before starting the cleanliness drive, a brief meeting with the Oushok Village Council Chairman and the Oushok Village Students’ Union was held.
The 3rd Phase activities on SWACHHATA HI SEVA,2024, covered about 1.20 Kilometres of the village.
Altogether, 77 NSS volunteers, 7 faculties, 17 Oushok Village Students’ Union members, 3 Village Council Member (including Chairman), 2 nos. NSS Commity members and one PO participated in the programme. A quantity of waste/garbage of abut 100kgs was collected.
