Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2024 begins in Wokha; MLA Humstoe emphasises on unity

Wokha: Tokhu Emong a time to give thanks to God: Chairman Lotha Hoho

The Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2024 commenced on 4th November 2024 with the inauguration of Tokhu Stalls at the Public Ground in Wokha. The event was graced by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), as the Special Guest for the inaugural ceremony. The festival will continue until 7th November.

In his address, Humtsoe extended Tokhu Emong greetings and emphasised the significance of the strength of unity and collective efforts. The MLA reminded the attendees of the historical contributions of the Lotha community such as the establishment of the first tribal council in 1923, the 1951 plebiscite, and the 16-Point Agreement in 1960. He drew attention to the community’s pivotal role in political and social developments, mentioning the roots of major parties like the BJP, Congress, and LJP in the region.

Humtsoe expressed concern over the current decline in the community’s social and economic standing, calling for a renewed commitment to unity and strength.

Er. Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman of the Lotha Hoho, welcomed attendees with Tokhu Emong greetings and highlighted that the festival is not just an occasion for merriment, but also a time to give thanks to God for good health and the blessings received throughout the year. He reiterated that the festival is about maintaining unity within the community and expressed hope that it would be a source of blessings for all.

The event was chaired by Er. Limhathung Odyou, Joint Secretary of the Lotha Hoho. The invocation and dedicatory prayer for the stalls were offered by Rev. Abemo Jungio, Pastor of WTBC, while Limhathung N. Yathan, President of the Lotha Youth Hoho, announced the rules and regulations for stall usage.
