‘Trends, Theory & Praxis of Postmodern English Literature’ International seminar held at NU

The Department of English, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, hosted a two-Day International Seminar on “Trends, Theory and Praxis of Postmodern English Literature” during 24-25 March 2025. This event brought together eminent scholars, researchers, and students from across the globe to delve into the diverse landscapes of postmodern thought and literary discourse, informed a press release by the PRO, NU.

Convened by Dr. Subhashis Banerjee and Prof. Suresh Kurapati of the host department, the seminar saw the presentation of nearly 42 scholarly papers—both in physical and virtual modes—reflecting a broad spectrum of postmodern literary inquiries.

The event was formally inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, whose inspiring address set the tone for the sessions that followed. Prof. Nigamananda Das, Head of the Department, extended a warm welcome to all the participants and guests. Prof. Suresh Kurapati provided the concept note, outlining the objectives and scope of the seminar.

Distinguished resource persons who shared their insights included Prof. Chong Seng Tong and Prof. Z. Ahamed from Malaysia, Prof. Bijoy Lal Basu from Dhaka University, Bangladesh, Prof. Sravani Biswas from Tezpur University, Prof. Shreya Bhattacharji from Central University of Jharkhand, and Prof. Dwijen Sharma from NEHU, Tura Campus. Their lectures engaged deeply with themes like deconstruction, metafiction, identity politics, and the shifting paradigms of literary meaning in the postmodern context.

The seminar was marked not only by academic depth but also by a vibrant cultural expression. Students of the department presented an array of cultural performances celebrating the rich and diverse traditions of Nagaland, leaving a lasting impression on the attendees.

Faculty members including Prof. Akthar Jamal Khan, Dr. Lemtila Alinger, and Dr. I. Talisenla Imsong effectively chaired several technical sessions, ensuring the smooth flow of scholarly exchanges. Their thoughtful moderation added great value to the academic atmosphere.

On the concluding day, Prof. Jano S. Liegise delivered the valedictory note, capturing the essence of the deliberations. The official report of the seminar was presented by Dr. R. Vasanthan, and certificates were distributed by Dr. Subhashis Banerjee, who also delivered the final vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts that made the event a grand success.
