Wokha Village Students’ Union celebrates platinum jubilee

Wokha Village Students’ Union marked its Platinum Jubilee on December 27 and 28 at the village ground, celebrating the unions 75 years of unity and growth. The day 1 event ie the literary day was graced by, Joint Secretary to the Governor, Raj Bhavan, Mhomo Tungoe as the literary guest, alongside leaders and members of the community.

Tungoe addressed the audience, shedding light on the opportunities and challenges faced by the current generation. He emphasised the importance of cultivating originality and critical thinking through reading and self-discipline, warning against over-reliance on technology and artificial intelligence, which, while convenient, can lead to laziness. He encouraged the youth to engage in proactive writing and intellectual development to enhance their growth and creativity.

Tungoe also highlighted the significance of choosing friends wisely, noting that peers play a crucial role in shaping an individual’s personal and professional journey. He shared that the motivation and hard work of his friends greatly contributed to his own success, emphasising the positive influence of a supportive circle.

Furthermore, Tungoe urged the audience to step out of their comfort zones and interact with diverse groups of people. He observed that Nagaland often feels too homogeneous and encouraged the community to embrace diversity by mingling with others beyond their immediate circles. He stressed that learning about different cultures and perspectives not only broadens one’s horizons but also fosters personal growth and mutual understanding.

Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) President, Lirhonthung E. Kithan, extended greetings on behalf of the union, expressing pride in the village’s legacy of unity and respect. He commended the vision of the pioneers who established the union and reflected on its contributions to the community the LSU and the larger Lotha fraternity. Kithan urged the gathering to continue working for collective progress while celebrating its achievements.

The event featured a variety of literary and creative competitions, including singing, debates, extempore speaking, quizzes, and painting, showcasing the diverse talents of the participants.

The event was chaired by the Chairperson, Mhachoni Y. Kikon, and moderated by the Moderator, Rondeno P. Murry. The invocation was led by the Youth Director of Wokha Village Baptist Church, Rev. Phyodemo W. Tungoe. The LSU Anthem was presented by Nzamongi Murry. The welcome address was delivered by the Literary Secretary of WVSU, Thungchibeni T. Erui. A folk song was performed by the Female Cultural Club of Wokha Village. The vote of thanks was offered by the Vice President of WVSU, Renathung C. Murry, and the benediction was given by the Associate Women’s Leader of WVBC, Eyingbeni Murry. The lunch was graced by the CNY Director of WVBC, Nzanbeni P. Murry.
