Department of Anthropology, Nagaland University, conducted a one-day workshop on “Emerging Areas of Research in Biological and Cultural Anthropology: An interdisciplinary Anthropology” on March 21, 2025. It was inaugurated by Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University and Chief Patron of the workshop. Prof. M.S. Rawat, Dean, School of Science, patron of the workshop, and Prof. M.K. Sinha, Dean, School of Social Science, were also present, informed a press release by the University.
Around 100 research scholars and students of Nagaland University and other Northeastern universities took part in it. The core focus of the workshop was the major interdisciplinary approach of Anthropology with other Science and social science disciplines, mainly through the studies on molecular anthropology, human genetics, evolutionary anthropology and adaptation, human rights, criminology, and anthropology.

Prof. Arup Ratan Bandyopadhyay from the Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta, delivered the keynote address on the variation of skin pigmentation in relation to human genetics and molecular anthropology, with ecological adaptation. Prof. Ranjit Kumar, from the Department of Zoology, Nagaland University, delivered the plenary lecture on cancer research and its basic as well as advanced approaches with a special focus on his work in the university. Prof. Upasana Bora Sinha, Head, Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, delivered the plenary lecture on the various fellowship programmes and career orientation in research with a special focus on ethical grounds. Prof. Sutapa Choudhury, from the Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta, delivered the valedictory address on criminal psychology and the role of anthropological studies.
The feedback from the participants was generally positive, especially commending it for its academic value and relevance.
